Tried to sell me a break job I didn't need

The mechanic tried to sell me a $700 break job that I didn't need. He said it was very dangerous and I needed to get it fixed immediately. I thought his explanation of what I needed sounded very fishy so I took it to another mechanic to get a second opinion. The 2nd mechanic said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car.I am a young blonde female and he thought he could take advantage of me. I don't know if this is common practice or a one time thing. Either way, I would avoid this business.
