Lost Dog Café and Gourmet Pizza Deli

Cuisine: Pizza, Sandwiches
Price: $$

At Lost Dog Café, the ingredients in the pizzas and sandwiches are nothing new in themselves, but the combination and preparation make them great. Pizzas range from traditional tastes to odd flavor selections like the "Chicken Taco" pie. Dozens of specialty sandwiches feature various combinations of breads, meats, cheeses and vegetables. Some are named politically significant things, like "The President" and "The Eagle," while others have a dog theme, like "Pavlov's Perro" and "The Pound Hound." Speaking of dogs, another reason to visit this restaurant is that the owners use some of the profits to rescue stray dogs and cats and find them new, safe homes.

Ray's the Steaks

Cuisine: Steakhouse
Price: $$$

Forget the bare walls and the loud murmurs that fill the air, Ray's the Steaks is all about delicious meat. Rib eyes, fillet mignon, hangar steaks and more, cooked to order and coming with a variety of spices and additions, are what the restaurant is known for, and what keeps it bustling day after day. The restaurant is so popular that it's best to make a reservation in advance no matter what day of the week, or you might find yourself waiting, hungrily, to try the steaks whose mouthwatering aromas waft out into the street.

Ravi Kabob House

Cuisine: Indian, Pakistani
Price: $

Celebrate the diverse ethnicities that have enriched America with a trip to Ravi Kabob House. This restaurant isn't the kind of place to take a date or even to expect a great atmosphere, but the food is what makes the entire trip worthwhile. Often the restaurant is packed with diners, but luckily the food can be had to go as well, if you're in a hurry. If you're new to the cuisine, go for the chicken kabobs accompanied with a side of chickpeas, or be adventurous and select one of the wonderful, madly seasoned karahis.

Super Pollo

Cuisine: Latin American
Price: $

Famous for its Peruvian chicken, Super Pollo is cheap and a bit rough around the edges but is very, very worth the trip. Purchase 1/4, 1/2 or a whole chicken along with a few sides like yucca or fried rice. The chicken, ordered either dark or white, is ultra-juicy and tender, which will tempt you to devour far more than your stomach will comfortably hold. Save some for the next day: it's nearly as good as the first time around, making for at least two delicious meals at insanely cheap prices.

Astor Mediterranean

Cuisine: Mediterranean
Price: $

Another win for Arlington's cheap ethnic restaurant scene, Astor Mediterranean has great, fairly authentic food from the other side of the world. Try the lamb gyro or one of the many kabob selections if you want a more traditional meal. The pizzas are some of the best in the area, even if they aren't exactly Mediterranean. Make sure you order one or two appetizers with your meal, as sometimes the main course can be a bit small alone. Even with these extras, you're still getting quite a bargain for an excellent meal.
